The world is in a war against an alien race called "Mimics", who have taken over most of the world with a mission to eliminate the human race. Keiji Kiriya is a new recruit in the United Defense Force, which is battling against these "Mimics". On his first day of deployment, Keiji and his unit encounter "Mimics" and are all killed... Or was it all a dream?
For some inexplicable reason, after every time he dies, he is resurrected and returned back to the day before the battle.

The first 2014 issue of Shueisha's Young Jump magazine is announcing on Thursday that manga artist Takeshi Obata (Hikaru no Go, Death Note) will launch an adaptation of All You Need Is Kill novel by Hiroshi Sakurazaka (Modern Magic Made Simple). Ryōsuke Takeuchi (ST&RS) is drafting the story adaptation, and Obata is basing the character designs on the original novel illustration work by Yoshitoshi ABe (Serial Experiments Lain, Texhnolyze). The mini-series will debut in the magazine's combined 6th/7th 2014 issue, which will ship on January 9.


All You Need Is Kill revolves around a battle-armored soldier who finds himself dying and reincarnating over and over again during an alien invasion. Viz Media published Sakurazaka's novel in English to launch its Haikasoru imprint for Japanese science fiction and fantasy.


Edge of Tomorrow, a live-action film adaptation of the novel, will open in the United States on June 6, 2014 after being delayed earlier from this year. The film stars Tom Cruise, Emily Blunt, Charlotte Riley, Kick Gurry, and Marianne Jean-Baptiste.


Viz will publish an All You Need Is Kill graphic novel adaptation — separate from Young Jump's manga — next May. Writer Nick Mamatas (Move Under Ground) and artist Lee Ferguson (Green Arrow, Miranda Mercury) are working on this graphic novel.
